Spiritual Counselling

What is spiritual counselling?

Spiritual counselling is a type of service most psychologists are not equipped to handle. Dr Adelbert Scholtz, who is a trained minister of religion, along with his postgraduate studies in the history of Christianity, philosophy, New Testament studies and pastoral family therapy, as well as his memorisation of scriptures, ensures he is equipped with the skills, knowledge and expertise to handle many different cases.

Spiritual counselling is a comprehensive approach to overall wellbeing that incorporates the patient’s spiritual beliefs into the therapeutic process. This is a safe space for patients to share their personal beliefs and understand how those beliefs impact their life choices and decisions.

It’s normal to question one’s faith, particularly when going through turmoil or having a traumatic experience such as the loss of someone close, job loss or a health issue. In these times, it can be challenging to think of a loving and caring God when you are going through emotional pain. It’s therefore up to your spiritual counsellor to help you reconcile with God and understand who God is and what God represents in your personal life.

What does spiritual counselling entail?

Your spiritual counsellor, Dr Scholtz, is here to support you on your journey. He adopts a holistic approach to treatment, considering your spiritual and religious views when integrating therapy during your one-on-one sessions. Dr Scholtz focuses on core issues, allowing you to come to terms with shame, guilt, trauma, or loss of purpose through a mixture of psychological and spiritual techniques.

He adopts a hands-on approach through scripture readings from the Bible or other religious texts, daily prayer tailored to your beliefs, and affirmations that reinforce positive spiritual values.

Who benefits?

Spiritual counselling may benefit you if you feel lost or lack purpose in life and wish to incorporate spirituality in your life while on the path toward recovery.
